GOP Rep. Vos proposing restrictions on recall elections

MILWAUKEE- Fifteen recall elections have been held in Wisconsin is less than a year.
Some want recalls to be outlawed -- saying they're a waste of time and money.
And some are already talking about recalling John Lehman if he does win in Racine.
But one Republican lawmaker wants to recall the recalls. Republican Representative Robin Vos says he's against recalling John Lehman. "I don't think we should be recalling John Lehman, if he ends up winning the election, just because he's a Democrat," said Vos.
Vos would like to see a special session this summer to vote on restricting recalls. "You can only do it if you've committed some real breach of the public trust. If you've committed a crime or even been charged with an ethical violation."
Democrat Brett Hulsey argues that the power should be in voter's hands. "Robin Vos's idea is the politicians protections act. We should avoid that," said Hulsey. "It's like the lemon law. If you buy a car, it's not doing what it said it was going to do, you can get your money back. Same way with politicians."
Voters are mixed on the proposal.
"I disagree with legislation to limit the recalls. I think we went through a valuable exercise in democracy," said Jon Fliegel.
For Tammy Greco, the $16 million price tag to taxpayers for the recalls was too much. "All the different ways that you could have used that money. That is a lot a lot of money."))
The recall legislation would have to pass in two different sessions, one before and one after the November election, which is why Vos is hoping to get the bill passed this summer.
