Mayor Barrett calls turnout 'encouraging' as he votes in Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE - Within the first hour of voting Tuesday morning, lines were very long - including at the place where Milwaukee Mayor and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tom Barrett voted, at Milwaukee's French Immersion School.
"Obviously, the lines are very, very long. It's a very encouraging sign. People are engaged," Barrett told Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Michelle Richards.
"The energy has just been building, building and building, which we think is a very good sign. Both of our teenagers will be voting. We're just glad so many people care about our democracy, care about the future of the state."
Barrett faces incumbent Republican Scott Walker. He voted in Wauwatosa on Tuesday.
