Fire destroys garage, damages house on Milwaukee's west side
MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee firefighters have controlled a fire that severely damaged a garage and house on the city's west side.
The fire began in a garage near the corner of South 60th and West Main Streets at about 6:05 a.m.
"By the time we arrived on scene, it extended to a second house," Milwaukee Fire Deputy Chief Michael Romas told Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Jay Sorgi.
The fire then spread to the attic of the home next door. Firefighters extinguished both fires.
He said firefighters had trouble fighting the fire due to downed wires in the area.
Fire officials said one person was inside the home when the fire started, and they got out safely.
The garage was said to be a total loss. The fire also heavily damaged part of the home.
Arson investigators were on the scene investigating the fire, but Romas said "Whenever we have a loss of this nature, of this amount or size, we send them. It's just a matter of protocol."
