Man tried giving away baby at north side intersection
MILWAUKEE- A man tries to give away a baby at a busy intersection, so drivers called police.
That eight-month-old is doing well, despite the scary ordeal. Police claim a man tried to give her away to drivers on Sunday at the intersection of N. 44th St. and W. Center St.
People living off N. 40th and W. Clarke Ave. on Milwaukee's north side couldn't believe what happened here -- and neither could officers.
"We received several calls from citizens about a gentleman who was going in and out of traffic trying to give away a baby," said MPD Officer Kyle Baus.
The 20-year-old man had reportedly taken an eight-month-old from a family member.
Officers Kyle Baus and Dan Reilly were quickly dispatched to the neighborhood. By the time they arrived, people pointed them in the direction of the man and child. The knew something was up by the way cars were driving.
They caught up with the man in the middle of the street near N. 44th and W. Center St.
But these officers knew the baby was in danger. "We wanted to get the child away without getting the child injured," said Officer Dan Reilly.
The man did not want to hear anything the cops were telling him, so they kicked their training into action.
Officer Baus grabbed his head and chin and titled him back so he loosened his grip on the child so Officer Reilly grab the child.
Amazingly the child never shed a tear.
The man was taken in for a mental evaluation, it was later determined the baby had received a heart transplant three months ago; she was in desperate need of medical attention.
