MILWAUKEE- A scary situation unfolded in just minutes at Starms Early Childhood Center on Milwaukee's north side Thursday afternoon.

A four-year-old apparently was abducted by a 33-year-old woman around 3:10 p.m. near N. 27th St. and W. Garfield Ave.

The girl's mother told TODAY'S TMJ4 another woman lied to school security officers and told the child her mom had given permission for the pickup -- only that was not the case.

The real mom, just minutes behind, told TODAY'S TMJ4 she scrambled to her car and searched the neighborhood  -- eventually tracking down the woman and child on foot near N. 25th St. and W. North Ave. before police arrived.

The child is safe and Milwaukee police are looking into how this happened.

The alleged kidnapper is now in police custody.
