No refunds for Green Bay marathon halted due to heat
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Organizers of a Green Bay marathon halted because of the heat and humidity said Monday refunds will not be given to runners who didn't finish the race.
Cellcom Green Bay Marathon spokeswoman Tammy VanDenBusch says runners agree to a disclosure when registering for the race that explains the policy.
At least 18 runners were treated at area hospitals Sunday, most with heat stroke. Many more were treated by EMTs on site. About half the 7,400 runners, most doing a-half marathon, finished the race before it was stopped about 9:30 a.m.
The Green Bay Press-Gazette (http://gbpg.net/KWMu9A ) says the temperature when the event began at 7 a.m. was 70 with readings climbing as the race progressed.
