MILWAUKEE- A showdown over streetcars has two Milwaukee alderman screaming at each other. The fireworks were caught on tape.

"Shame on you! Shame on you," shouted Alderman Bob Donovan as he pointed his finger at Alderman Bob Bauman.

It turned into a finger pointing, fist pounding battle of the Bobs.

"We respond to what our constituents demand," Donovan said while pounding his fist on the podium.

Donovan was demanding a referendum on the downtown streetcar.  But Bauman pointed out that idea had already failed once in the Milwaukee Common Council.

"I'm not going to let you lie to the public," said Bauman.  "I'm tired of these phony assertions."

TODAY'S TMJ4 showed the streetcar shouting match to city residents.

"I'm surprised the gray hair man didn't get his *** kicked," said Michael Kilmer.

Kilmer isn't a fan of the proposed $65 million streetcar.  "This is a tiny project with an astronomical cost in a place where there is no need for it," said Kilmer.  "It goes from nowhere to nowhere."

The expected route would run about two miles through the city's central business district.

"I'm thrilled about it," said Marsha Sehler.

The route is near Sehler's east side home. She believes there was plenty of public debate.

"I think you get people that care about it, that are impacted by it and you make an intelligent decision and you go forward."

The mayor's office tells TODAY'S TMJ4 there are still hard decisions to be made about the streetcar project as they wait for final cost estimates.
