MILWAUKEE- Two Milwaukee aldermen are arguing over a streetcar proposal became entangled in a shouting match at City Hall.
"What are you afraid of with a referendum," screamed Milwaukee Alderman Bob Donovan to Alderman Robert Bauman. "You come up here to disrupt my (press conference), shame on you! Shame on you!"
Milwaukee Alderman Bob Donovan's face turned redder and redder as he yelled and pointed a finger at his colleagues face. Donovan's demanded that Mayor Tom Barrett pick a side on whether voters should be allowed to decide the fate of the rail line."The mayor can see, I'm supporting a referendum, I support hearing from the people." Donovan was then interrupted by Alderman Bauman and the continued yelling at each other.
Alderman Bauman walked in on Donovan's news conference to disagree with his claim that the city would reject a streetcar plan if the proposal was turned into a referendum, "I'm not going to let you lie to the public, I'm tired of these phony assertions," said Bauman.
Donovan ended the press conference by walking away and chanting "shame, shame" at Bauman.
Meanwhile, city officials are still working out the details on how the streetcar will be constructed.
