Cardinal George to give St. Norbert's commencement address
DE PERE, Wis. (AP) -- Cardinal Francis George is expected give the commencement address at St. Norbert College and receive an honorary degree.
Chicago's archbishop received national publicity after referencing the Ku Klux Klan when talking to a Chicago TV station about the schedule and route for the annual Pride Parade in Chicago in December. The parade is associated with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
Thousands of St. Norbert students, alumni and supporters signed an online petition asking the college to drop George as speaker. But St. Norbert President Thomas Kunkel said at that time the school welcomes people with a variety of opinions and would not rescind the invitation.
School spokesman Mike Counter tells the Green Bay Press-Gazette (http://gbpg.net/M7x3g1 ) administrators don't know of any planned protests during Sunday's commencement.
