Madison couple charged with starving daughter asks for donations
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A husband and wife accused of torturing the man's teenage daughter in Madison have set up a website seeking donations for their legal defense.
Prosecutors say the couple withheld food from the girl and kept her in the basement. They've also accused the girl's stepbrother of sexually assaulting her.
The site says the couple is falsely accused. The Wisconsin State Journal reports (http://bit.ly/JH7a4X ) the site asks visitors to remember the man is an Army veteran who was honorably discharged and the pair had never been arrested previously.
The site is registered to the father but his lawyer is listed as the donation collector.
The girl's biological mother, Heidi Carr, said the website is an attempt to lie their way out of the crime.
The couple is scheduled to appear in court Friday.
