Woman dead after crash on Milwaukee's near west side
MILWAUKEE - A woman has died and four others have been injured after a crash on Milwaukee's near west side Friday morning.
The three-car crash happened just before 2:00 a.m. at the corner of North 27th Street and West St. Paul Avenue.
Witnesses tell police a woman was driving a van north "at a high rate of speed" on 27th and went through a red light at the intersection of St. Paul.
She collided with someone driving another vehicle. After they crashed, a third vehicle got into a collision with at least one of the other vehicles.
The woman's van turned over. She was killed, while rescue crews took two passengers from her van to a hospital. Police said doctors were performing surgery on them.
There was no initial word on their condition.
The drivers of the other vehicles also went to a local hospital. Police say it is believed they should survive their injuries.
Milwaukee Police spent early Friday morning investigating the cause of the crash. They cleared the scene at about 6:45 a.m.
