MILWAUKEE - A woman has died and four others have been injured after a crash on Milwaukee's near west side Friday morning.

The three-car crash happened just before 2:00 a.m. at the corner of North 27th Street and West St. Paul Avenue.

Witnesses tell police a woman was driving a van north "at a high rate of speed" on 27th and went through a red light at the intersection of St. Paul.

She collided with someone driving another vehicle.  After they crashed, a third vehicle got into a collision with at least one of the other vehicles.

The woman's van turned over.   She was killed, while rescue crews took two passengers from her van to a hospital.  Police said doctors were performing surgery on them.

There was no initial word on their condition.

The drivers of the other vehicles also went to a local hospital.  Police say it is believed they should survive their injuries.

Milwaukee Police spent early Friday morning investigating the cause of the crash.  They cleared the scene at about 6:45 a.m.

A deadly crash allegedly involving a hit-and-run drunk driver happened at the same corner on New Years' Day 2012.
