MILWAUKEE- Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett appears to be pulling ahead of the pack in the gubernatorial recall race, but his main Democratic opponent -- former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk is defending her campaign.

With the Democratic recall primary less than two weeks away, the latest polls show Tom Barrett with double digits leads.  But opponent Kathleen Falk told Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Wisconsin's Afternoon News, those results may be misleading.  "You would expect Tom (Barrett) to have been the front-runner because he just ran for governor a year ago," said Falk.

The former Dane County Executive maintains she was a crusader in the recall process while Barrett reluctantly got involved later.  "I was the one working side-by-side with citizens all across the state by helping gather those million signatures for the recall, unlike my friend Tom, who weeks before the deadline, hadn't signed the petition himself," said Falk.

Falk is backed by the state's largest public employee unions, "They know I'm the best one to go toe-to-toe against Scott Walker," said Falk.

The Democratic gubernatorial primary is set for May 8.  The general election against Governor Walker is June 5.
