MADISON- The Assembly's minority leader has endorsed Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett for governor in the recall election.
Democratic Assembly leader Peter Barca released the following statement about his decision:
"Tom Barrett will be a governor who will focus on jobs, and restore trust, integrity and accountability to state government. Our Wisconsin values have been under assault from this governor over the past 15 months, and its time for a healer who will bring us together. I know Tom Barrett has what it takes to defeat Scott Walker, and I'm proud to endorse Tom Barrett for governor"
The Journal Sentinel notes Barca has been a longtime colleague of Barrett's, rooming with him in Congress and serving with him in the Assembly.
Barrett has received numerous endorsements from Wisconsin politicians such as: U.S. Senator Herb Kohl, state Senators Erpenbach, Tim Cullen as well as U.S. Rep. Ron Kind, among others. Barrett also picked up an endorsement from the police union.
Barrett's biggest Democratic opponent in the recall race is former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, who has received endorsements from Wisconsin's biggest unions.
The Democratic primary for governor is set for May 8. The recall's general election is on June 5.
