Wauwatosa school board considers moving start times back

WAUWATOSA - The school day could be changing for thousands of students in Wauwatosa.
During a school board meeting scheduled for Monday night, the school board was set to consider a proposal to change the start and end times at most of its schools.
All Wauwatosa elementary and middle schools would be affected by the move..
For the 2012-13 school year, elementary school students would start their day at 8:20 a.m., while middle schools would start their day at 8:10 a.m. High school times would remain the same,
Safety is the biggest reason for the change, according to Wauwatosa Schools Superintendent Dr. Phillip Ertl.
In 2011, a four-year-old girl was hit by a car outside Eisenhower Elementary
Officials hope the change in start times would decrease traffic and offer more safety for students.
Originally, the superintendent suggested moving all schools up by 20 minutes, which would have high school students beginning at 7:40 a.m.
He has backed off that plan.
