Teachers unions meet with salary restrictions

MADISON - In the weeks leading up to the recall elections, Governor Scott Walker has taken a bold move, placing additional restrictions on teachers' unions in terms of negotiating for inflation-based pay raises.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the rule change wouldn't use an individual's actual salary as a base salary to calculate raises for teachers in public schools and technical colleges.
The move further restricts what was agreed to last year in the controversial legislation.
A spokesperson for the Walker administration says the change is necessary to implement labor legislation signed by the governor last year.
Under that deal, bargaining by unions had to be limited to cost of living adjustments.
Walker's new change would further limit that.
