TROY, Mich.- United Auto Workers union members are among hundreds of people who have picketed outside a Michigan Republican event featuring Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.

The Michigan protest was held Tuesday evening outside at the San Marino Club in Troy, site of the Southeast Michigan Ronald Reagan Memorial Dinner.

The UAW says the demonstration is targeted at Walker's and Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder's "shared agenda of cutting taxes on the wealthy while shifting the tax burden to the middle-class workers."

Upward of 4,000 people protested Walker's appearance earlier Tuesday at an event in Springfield, Ill., while Walker received a standing ovation at his speech at an Illinois Chamber of Commerce event.

A large mock-up of Walker with "Don't Badger Us" was seen at the rally.

Unions planned the protest because of the collective bargaining cuts he made in Wisconsin.

Walker is facing a June recall in Wisconsin for stripping his state's public employees of their bargaining rights.
