Car crashes through Milwaukee War Memorial Center
MILWAUKEE - A car crashed through the front window of the Milwaukee County War Memorial Center downtown late Saturday night.
Milwaukee Church of Christ Minister Randy Harris says he wasn't sure where his congregation was going to hold services Sunday.
His worry grew larger after seeing shattered windows and a car lodged into a staircase at the War Memorial downtown. Harris' church uses space on the second floor of the landmark building every week.
"When you find out that a car ran through the front of the building you don't know if there is structural damage where they're gonna have to close it," says Harris.
"I come here every Sunday, so it kinda hits home," says Amanda Pine.
Investigators said it appeared that the car crossed the Mason Street Bridge, drove right through the intersection, and and then crashed through a window and down a flight of stairs. The driver was not seriously hurt and a cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The memorial's executive director tells TODAY'S TMJ4 he doesn't believe the building will need to permanately close as repairs are made.
