Three Wisconsin schools to compete in national jazz band competition
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Three Wisconsin schools will compete in a national high school jazz band competition in New York City.
Badger High School in Lake Geneva, Beloit Memorial High School in Beloit and Eau Claire North High School in Eau Claire are among 15 schools nationwide that will take part in the Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival. It will run from May 4 through May 6.
One hundred and eleven schools nationwide entered the competition. The other finalists are from Washington, Illinois, Florida, California, Ohio, Massachusetts and New Jersey.
The bands will compete and participate in workshops and jam sessions, among other things. The first-place award is $5,000.
