Marquette, Wisconsin hoops seasons end in NCAA losses
MILWAUKEE - College basketball fans in the state of Wisconsin are enduring the losses of both NCAA tournament entrants, as both went down in the Sweet 16 round.
The cheeseheads' doubleheader of agony began with Wisconsin failing to make a last-second shot and losing to the Syracuse Orangemen, 64-63, in the East Regional semifinals in Boston.
The night ended with Marquette shooting just 30.8% in a 68-58 loss to the Florida Gators in the West Regional semifinals in Phoenix.
The teams finished with a combined 53-18 record in only the third season that both teams made the Sweet 16.
Never have both teams qualified for the Elite 8 in the same year.
