Local Catholics, Priests excited over Archbishop Dolan to be Cardinal
MILWAUKEE- New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan was Archbishop in Milwaukee for seven years -- before going to New York.
People who know Archbishop Dolan say he brings fresh energy to the Catholic Church -- and they are thrilled about his elevation to Cardinal.
Milwaukee's favorite Cardinals fan about to become a Cardinal in the Catholic Church.
St. Louis native and former Milwaukee Archbishop Timothy Dolan is all smiles in Rome on the eve of his elite elevation.
On the streets of Milwaukee, there has been nothing but good wishes for the soon to be Cardinal.
Local priests, like the rector of St. John the Evangelist are overjoyed.
"This is a great day for our Archdiocese of Milwaukee, of course, him being our shepherd for those years. It's like a little bit of us is being elevated to that position as well," said Father Jeff Haines.
Father Jeff Haines served on the council of priests with Archbishop Dolan and loves how personable he is.
"It was amazing how his humor was incorporated into even what normally would be dull meetings," said Father Haines.
And Father Haines says he knows it was that wonderful spirit that helped our former Archbishop move into one of the most important roles in the church.
"I think what the Holy Father Pope Benedict appreciates about Archbishop Dolan is his ability to connect faith and real life. He's so personable and so very much in touch with the ordinary lives of people," said Father Haines.
Father Haines and nearly everyone else TODAY'S TMJ4 spoke with says they will be watching some part of Saturday's ceremony.
