UW-Parkside investigating possible hate crime
KENOSHA- Students at UW-Parkside are upset about what they're calling a hate crime.
Late Wednesday afternoon a noose was found in Pike River Suites, a residence hall on the university of Wisconsin-Parkside campus. Early Thursday morning, the person who reported the incident received a threatening note, according to a statement by the school.
"At the university of Wisconsin-Parkside we're proud of the diverse living and learning environment the campus offers our students, faculty, staff, and the communities we serve," said Chancellor Deborah Ford. "The type of behavior displayed by a very small number of people is not tolerated and will not be tolerated here."
According to UW-Parkside senior diversity officer Dr. Ed Twyman, a number of areas of campus are conducting an investigation, including UW-Parkside police and public safety, the office of diversity and inclusion, and the office of the dean of students.
In response to the incidents, Cindy Graham, interim dean of students, said the university is making sure the individual who reported the first incident is cared for.
Members of the UW-Parkside administration met with approximately 30 students Thursday afternoon, to hear their concerns.
