Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald raises $189k as recall looms
MADISON- New campaign finance reports show Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald has raised nearly $190,000 ahead of a potential recall.
Fitzgerald, a Juneau Republican, is among four Republican state senators Democrats and their allies have targeted for recall next year. The Democrats want to punish them for supporting Gov. Scott Walker's contentious collective bargaining law, which stripped most public workers of almost all their union rights.
Reports filed with state elections officials Thursday show Fitzgerald raised $189,932 between July 1 and Dec. 10. He spent $112,063 and had $280,269 on hand.
Lori Compas is leading the recall drive against him. She says she has filed her report with the state Government Accountability Board, but the board hadn't uploaded it as of late Thursday afternoon.
