Drunk driving trial set for former Fond du Lac state senator

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) -- A trial date has been set for Randy Hopper, the former state senator accused of drunken driving and crossing a highway's center line.
The 45-year-old Republican from Fond du Lac pleaded not guilty last month.
Online court records show that a trial date of March 22 was set Wednesday. The Reporter newspaper in Fond du Lac (http://fondul.ac/vQQmic ) reports it will be a six-person jury.
Hopper was arrested Oct. 16 after a driver reported him weaving on U.S. Highway 151. A sheriff's report says a breath test at the jail registered a blood-alcohol content 1.6 times the legal limit.
A message left with Hopper's defense attorney Thursday was not immediately returned.
Hopper lost his seat in August in a recall election spurred by his support for Gov. Scott Walker's collective-bargaining law.
