Dashcam video released of former State Senator Randy Hopper's arrest for drunk driving
FOND DU LAC - It's not a good year for Randy Hopper. He lost his state senate seat in a recall election, is about to lose his wife in a heated divorce, and now faces OWI charges.
Dashcam video of his arrest over the weekend was released Tuesday. It shows Hopper stumbling during a field sobriety test. It all started when a concerned driver called 911. "I've seen him cross the center line about seven times in front of me, and the fog line twice."
Officers caught up with Hopper at a Fond du Lac grocery store with his girlfriend, Valerie Cass, who's nearly 20 years his junior.
The video shows Hopper consoling Cass before someone arrived to pick her up. But that's where his chivalry ends. He gets in the squad car and makes it clear, he's not happy. "So if I just want to accuse someone, I can call and accuse them?"
Hopper also tried to take his complaint higher up, asking the officer "Do you have the sheriff's cell number?" Hopper hasn't returned multiple messages for comment.
He refused to take a blood alcohol test and was held in jail for 12 hours before being released. He can pay a fine or show up for a November court date. His girlfriend wasn't cited.
