MILWAUKEE - A national financial magazine says three of the best places to live in America are in the Milwaukee area.

The Money Magazine study of the nation's best places to live puts three of Milwaukee's suburbs among its top 100.

Whitefish Bay topped the local list, ranking 65th.

Village Manager Patrick DeGrave cited the city's "good quality of life, low crime, a wonderful setting, quiet, right along the Lake Michigan shores" in an interview with Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Jay Sorgi.

Other people there cited the business district along Silver Spring Drive, and plenty of other factors.

"It's got an excellent school district," said Peter Jonas, who has lived in Whitefish Bay for years, during a chat with TODAY'S TMJ4's Diane Pathieu.

"It's a very comfortable community.  The people are very friendly.  It's a small-town atmosphere, but it's got a lot of things to do between the parks and recreation.  It's a good balance, and the people are wonderful here."

Germantown and Franklin also made the rankings, finishing 71st and 94th, respectively.

Middleton, a suburb of Madison, ranked 8th in the study.  Oregon, Wis., a town also near Madison, made the top 100.

"We looked at small towns, populations under 50,000 trying to find hidden gems people might now know about," said Beth Fenner of Money Magazine.

"We wanted things important to the typical American family: not too expensive, good schools, low crime, good health care and fiscal stability."

No other states had five cities in the top 100.

The study chose the Denver suburb of Louisville as number one in its rankings.

  1. What? Brookfield didn't make the list at all? The city leaders need to find out why since they think we're the greatest!
  2. I wouldnt consider any milwaukee county areas a good place to live....waukesha is where its at..... enjoy your mini-choochoo train and roomate benefits that bend tax payers over.
  3. Waukesha would NEVER make the Money list. The town has a run-down central core...the town is full of hicks & unkempt people.

Congratulations White Fish Bay! A beautiful clean town next to a large city that offers culture & diversity.
