OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) -- An hour-long hostage situation at the Oshkosh state prison has ended with no one getting hurt.

The Oshkosh Northwestern reports (http://bit.ly/qEc9Ag ) a male inmate was talking to a chaplain in a room on Wednesday when the inmate was able to close and lock the door with the chaplain still inside.

Department of Corrections spokesman Tim Le Monds says it happened about 8:30 a.m. He says prison staff members were able to persuade the inmate to open the door and come out after an hour.

He says staff members could see into the room the whole time and could have gotten into it in seconds if necessary.

No identifying information about the inmate was available. The incident is under investigation.

  1. The hostage situation lasted 6 ½ hours. The woman was alone with the inmate for 2 hours before anyone knew. They could not “GET in” at any time! The Inmate did not just lock the door but barricaded himself in. Shame on Mr. LaMonds version.
