Vouchers for Green Bay students to be removed from budget
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A provision in the state budget allowing vouchers for students in the Green Bay public school district is going to be removed.
School Choice Wisconsin lobbyist Jim Bender said Wednesday that it was being removed as part of a "path of finding resolution" to the $66 billion state budget.
Bender says vouchers will still be expanded to Racine and Milwaukee County as previously agreed upon.
Bender says the removal of vouchers for Green Bay isn't the end of the fight to get them there.
Opponents argued using public money to pay for students to attend private and religious schools amounts to a privatization of public education. But voucher supporters say it gives parents unhappy with their schools another choice.
