Intense recall election for state senate seat
MILWAUKEE - The recall election against State Senator Alberta Darling is intense on both sides.
Monday morning, a group of about fifty protesters marched outside of a fundraiser at The Wisconsin Club on Good Hope Road to criticize Darling. "I believe that she's not listening to her constituents - not all of us belong to country clubs," said protester Bonnie Pedraza.
But as the protesters marched, Darling called the group small compared to the nearly 200 people who attended the fund raising luncheon. "This is not just a state senate race," Darling said. "The motive, as you know, is to flip three seats so they can stop the reforms that are going on. I mean, let's talk about what's really happening."
Darling also emphasized she has a large group of campaign volunteers helping get her message out. At the Darling campaign office in Glendale, Kathy Hentzen said she supports the state senator because "I really believe that what Alberta is doing on joint finance is helping to further small business environment."
Darling's opponent in the race, State Representative Sandy Pasch, insists she did not know anything about today's protest. However, she said she does believe that people are very engaged in the race on both sides.
"I think everybody knows now the impact of state government in their lives. And it's really riled up a lot of people," Pasch said.
