Green Bay Packer Throws Prom
LAKE GENEVA – It was a night kids from Catholic Central High School in Burlington won’t soon forget… thanks in large part to a very generous Green Bay Packer.
Running back Ryan Grant picked up the tab for this year’s junior prom. Back in March, Grant made a deal with kids at the school. He told them if they raised money for his charity in honor of Ryan Luxem, he’d pay for their prom.
The 11-year-old boy died last December of leukemia, but not before making an impression on Grant.
“With everything he went through, it put a lot of things in perspective for me,” Grant told TODAY’S TMJ4.
Through various sales, the Catholic Central kids raised nearly $6,000 dollars for Grant’s charity. And Grant came through with this fabulous party at the Hawk’s View Country Club in Lake Geneva. The kids can hardly believe it:
“I’m pretty excited,” said senior Nick Spiegelhoff. “Pretty excited. I mean Ryan Grant coming out… I didn’t expect that. I’m pretty excited for tonight.”
And Grant was also genuinely excited. This was his first prom!
“I didn’t go to my prom, my junior or senior prom,” he said. “I was focused on this thing called football.”
The kids named Grant and his girlfriend honorary prom king and queen.
Another fundraiser for Ryan Grant’s “Ryan4Ryan” Charity will take place on Sunday, July 10th at Cool Waters in Greenfield Park.
Proceeds are for the creation of the Ryan Luxem Scholarship Fund for Wilmot High School, where Luxem’s mother is a teacher.
