Glendale Police say a 17-year-old from Milwaukee is in custody for shooting the Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare executive.

Mrs. Belec says her husband gave his attacker everything the young man asked for, but the gunman still shot Belec twice. It happened outside the company's headquarters along I-43 in Glendale.

Timothy Belec is out of intensive care and in a private room.

“He looks so much better today than he did yesterday,” Mrs. Belec said with tears welling in her eyes.

Investigators say a gunman approached Belec as he was leaving work. The gunman demanded things and then shot Belec twice in the shoulder. One of the things the gunman got was Belec’s cell phone. Mrs. Belec said investigators used calls made on that phone to track down a suspect.

The lone 17-year-old suspect was arrested early Wednesday morning in Milwaukee.

Tim Belec, a former police officer in Lake County Illinois was able to tell police his attacker used a .38 caliber Smith and Wesson to shoot him.
