Packers-Bears: Ticket Scam Snags Fan
NEW BERLIN -- Bryan Henry wanted what many Green Bay Packers fans want: Tickets to a huge game between two bitter rivals.
Bryan went online to Craigslist looking for people willing to part with tickets.
He found a guy in Florida who claimed that he had a pair of tickets. The poster said he couldn't go to the game and just wanted to get rid of the playoff passes.
When Bryan offered to pay face-value via PayPal, things started to get a little sketchy
"He sent me this long explanation about how his wife got ripped off using PayPal," Bryan recalls as he tells of how the man convinced him to send 600 dollars by Western Union.
The tickets were supposed to be sent by overnight mail on Wednesday, but when Bryan couldn't track the package online by 6 p.m., he got suspicious.
Sure enough, Western Union told him that the 600 dollars he sent was picked up in Orlando, Florida.
Thursday came and there were no tickets. Bryan went to the New Berlin Police Department asking for help. Given the difficulty involved in trying to track down such a scammer, Bryan isn't optimistic that authorities will be able to recover his money.
Bryan made one final stand: He posted his story on Craigslist on both the Milwaukee and Chicago pages. He says he's since been contacted by a number of people who were scammed by the same poster using the same money-wiring scheme.
