New York Times Honors Local Beer
MILWAUKEE - The New York Times has named Lakefront Brewery's East Side Dark as its second favorite German Dunkel beer.
The paper describes the beer as "dark without being too dark, with malty coffee and hazelnut aromas and a fresh, lively flavor."
Lakefront President Russ Klisch tells Newsradio 620 WTMJ the news, "made everybody very happy around here."
He says he had no idea the story was coming. He hasn't even found a copy of the physical paper with his story.
"We always want to toot our own horn here, but when somebody else like that comes in and gives you a nice compliment, to me that means something," Klisch said.
East Side Dark was the third beer the brewery ever made. It has been brewing the beer for more than 20 years. Klisch says it's still one of their top sellers.
