MILWAUKEE - Milwuakee County Executive Scott Walker has announced he will resign as executive on December 27th.

The move avoids the need to have a separate special election to fill the remainder of his term which runs through April 2011.

"Serving the residents of Milwaukee County for the last eight years has been an honor," said Walker in a statement.  " While I am looking forward to my new job, I enjoyed the time spent living and raising a family in Milwaukee County."

The County Executive will be sworn in as Wisconsin Governor at noon on Monday, January 3, 2011.

Milwaukee County Board Chairman Lee Holloway will take over as County Executive for at least a month before appointing an interim executive.  He has not ruled out appointing himself.
