CUDAHY – “I was in pain and I was shocked,” 12-year-old Ryan Mullarney said.

This, after his assistant football coach allegedly attacked him after a play.

Cudahy Assistant Football Coach Michael Crawley is suspended after allegedly attacking Mullarney. Cudahy police are investigating the incident.

Authorities say Crawley was upset when his own son got injured during a scrimmage. He then allegedly attacked Mullarney, body slamming him to the turf.

Several witnesses say the Cudahy Bulldogs assistant coach went ballistic, throwing the 12-year-old and screaming threats.

TODAY'S TMJ4's Tom Murray: “You’ve got several adult witnesses that say your client picked this kid up and slammed him to the ground. How can you refute that?”

“There are several other witnesses that were on the scene at the time that are also assistant coaches that dispute that’s chronology and the scenario that happened,” TJ Perlick-Molinari, the coach's attorney said.

Ryan Mullarney is 12 years old and 85 pounds. He says he was scared to death when Coach Michael Crawley attacked him.

Mullarney says he still loves playing football, but he’s shaken up and angry about what happened during the scrimmage.

“The sixth grade coach came at me, swearing, and he picked me up by my facemask, spun me in the air and slammed me on the ground,” Ryan Mullarney said.

Ryan had blocked Coach Michael Crawley’s son. The boy was hurt and the coach allegedly went after Ryan.

Another coach was stunned too.

“He completely slammed him to the ground. I mean, like you would see in a wrestling ring,” Coach Brian Molnar said.

Coach Brian Molnar says it was the most frightening thing he's ever seen.

"I could not believe what I saw," Coach Brian Molnar said.

Cudahy Football Coach Brian Molnar can't get it out of his mind. He says fellow coach Michael Crawley snapped, assaulting a 12-year-old boy.

"That kid was screaming form the point he was picked up to the point he slammed him down," Molnar said.

Here's how it happened: the 7th grade Cudahy football team was scrimmaging a 5th and 6th grade team also from Cudahy.

During the scrimmage, a 12-year-old boy knocked down Crawley's son during a drill. That's when he claims Crawley lost it, swearing and threatening the boy.

"He immediately grabbed him by his face mask, picked him up and turned him over, and it wasn't dropping him, he slammed him to the ground," Molnar said.

“Yes, that did come out,” Brian Molnar said.

According to a police report, Crawley believed Mullarney took a cheap shot at his son.

Not an excuse, according to Ryan’s mom.

“I don’t care. That didn’t give you the right to pick my son up and throw him on the ground,” Ryan’s mom, Lynn Brellenthin said.

TODAY’S TMJ4 tried to talk to Crawley, but he didn't return our phone call or answer his door. He could now be facing charges of physical abuse of a child. His lawyer says they deny the allegations.

Ryan had a bruised shoulder and a sore neck, but he is okay. He even played in Saturday’s game.

As for Coach Crawley, he’s not allowed to attend any games or practices.
