Walker Says Democrats Trying To "Hijack" Republican Primary
Cedarburg--Republican candidate for governor Scott Walker accused Democrats of trying to "hijack" the Republican Party.
"I think they're trying to take voters who are undecided and may be inclined to vote in the republican primary and go out of their way to attack us and not attack the other candidate in the primary in hopes that might shift enough votes in the other direction," he said. Some left leaning bloggers are encouraging their fellow democrats to cross over and vote in the republican primary for Mark Neumann. Among them is former Madison Mayor Paul Soglin. Graeme Zielinski, a spokesman for the Wisconsin Democrats says he's heard the rumors but dismisses the strategy. "Scott Walker's failure is going to be Scott Walker's own failure," he said. "This isn't going to be a factor in the election. Democrats are going to vote for Tom Barrett." Zielinski also said democrats are happy to face Walker in the general election. Mark Neumann's campaign manager says he doesn't believe democrats are going to help them win. Chip Englander believes Neumann's support is with conservatives. "You win a republican primary with conservatives. That's who Mark is and that's who is supporting him right now," Englander said.
Walker claims Democratic candidate Tom Barrett and Governor Jim Doyle are spending lots of money to attack him but not his opponent Mark Neumann.
