MILWAUKEE -   Some of the most distinguished legal minds from the state and the country gathered today to dedicate Marquette’s new law building.

Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Shirley Abrahamson welcomed everyone to the ceremony:

“This building embodies the American dream:  The notion that anything is possible through hard work no matter who you are and where you come from,” she told the crowd.

Also at today’s ceremony, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, who gave the keynote address.

Eckstein Hall is an $85 million  state-of- the-art law building, made possible by a $51 million gift from Ray and Kay Eckstein, an alumni couple from Cassville, Wisconsin.

The late Milwaukee builder and philanthropist Joseph Zilber also donated millions to the project.

Former Milwaukee Archbishop Timothy Dolan traveled from his new post in New York, to bless the building.

Marquette University is home to the city of Milwaukee’s only law school.
