Alleged Drunken Driver Kills Boy
WALWORTH COUNTY – A little boy is dead and his father recovering after investigators say a drunken driver smashed into their car.
“He was a little stunned and didn't realize what was going on, and said, 'what did I hit,” said Tricia Bilitz.
The carnage ended up in her front yard near County Road N and Highway 20 in the town of Troy Friday night.
Bilitz says her husband could smell the alcohol on 44-year old Scott Dragotta who allegedly was driving drunk when his vehicle ended up in their lawn.
Investigators believe Draggota blew a stop sign crashing into another car carrying 6-year old Treyton Kilar.
He died and his father, Michael Kilar suffered serious injuries, including a fractured vertebrae.
He was upgraded to fair condition Friday afternoon at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.
Treyton’s two sisters where also in the car, but were not injured.
“It’s heart breaking,” said Bilitz.
A judge ordered Dragotta to be held on a $100,000 cash bail, in part because investigators believe Dragotta was so drunk he hit another car just a few miles away minutes before the accident that killed Kilar.
“We suspect the second crash was him fleeing the scene from the first one,” said Walworth County Sheriff David Graves.
Graves says it’s a tragedy that was very difficult for his deputies to handle.
“My deputies were deeply affected by this,” he said as he choked back tears.
He gave a warning to other drivers this holiday weekend, don't drink and drive.
“A six year old boy is dead because of a drunk driver, just be responsible.”
An accident reconstruction team was on scene Friday afternoon.
You could still see debris from the deadly accident scattered throughout the lawn.
It’s a tragic reminder for Bilitz, a mother of two small children who luckily were not outside in the lawn at the time of the accident.
“Not only to think they could have been out there playing in the yard, but someone else lost their life too, lost their kid," she said as tears welled in her eyes.
