Brew City Flood: Riverside, Other Flooded MPS Schools To Be Ready

  • Print

MILWAUKEE - Riverside High School in Milwaukee was one of 42 schools damaged by the Brew City Flood, but like the others, it will be ready for the first day of school on September 1st.

Crews are still preparing Riverside, which saw the worst damage.

"They are reconstructing (a room which) I believe is a computer lab room, all new furniture in here," said MPS Spokeswoman Roseann St. Aubin to TODAY'S TMJ4 HD's Diane Pathieu, who got a tour of Riverside's clean-up efforts.

The school suffered $4.5 million damage to areas including the band room, which lost instruments and sheet music.

Art supplies, computers, lockers, the kitchen area and the old gym were all under six feet of water.

More than a month later, things are looking a lot better, with new lockers, new desks and clean hallways.

The floors in the old gym, which was built in the 1920's, had to go.  That will take a lot more work.

"What you're seeing is preparation," said St. Aubin. "They removed all the slats, and now preparing to
lay a new gym floor."

That should be completed by the end of September, but everything else is right on target at Riverside.
