MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office has charged a man with breaking into a home to try and steal items there while a teenage girl was babysitting his brother.

Anthony Washington, 25, faces up to 12 years and six months in prison if he is convicted.

According to the criminal complaint:

A teenager who was babysitting her brother last Thursday placed a 911 call saying that a burglary was happening at her home near the corner of North 60th and West Locust Streets.

That girl said in the complaint that she heard someone ring the doorbell, then saw a shadow of a hand attempting to remove an air conditioner from a window.

She also explained that she heard someone trying to take another air conditioner out of a different window in the home.

She attempted to hide in a part of the house, and she said she heard someone walking around the house.

Police officers who responded say they saw a screen removed from one corner of the house, and that another window had been opened.

An officer then said Washington opened the door to the home.  He attempted to escape, but after a chase on foot, Washington was captured about a mile away.

Washington apparently tried to throw a chair at the officer during the arrest.

According to someone living in the home, a laptop computer, charger and fish tank had been in the master bedroom earlier that day.
