Lakefront Festival of Arts has 'different feel,' inexpensive art, big kids area

MILWAUKEE - The 50th edition of the Lakefront Festival of Arts comes to the Milwaukee lakefront this weekend, just outside the Milwaukee Art Museum.
"There is a different feel. It's a really great mix of artists," said Krista Renfrew, the Milwaukee Art Museum's Director of Special Events.
"It's our 50th celebration. We have lots and lots of stuff for you to do."
That includes buying fine art that won't cost people what it costs the museum to get for the artwork it displays inside the museum.
"We actually have 176 artists from across the country, basically every medium you could ever think of," said Renfrew. "There are things that are accessible to the general public."
Can you haggle for prices, perhaps get a deal from the artist? "That depends on the artists."
She also stressed many other entertainment options, including music, performing arts, the festival's wine garden and a huge children's area.
"Our kids area is actually pretty extensive," explained Renfrew.
"We have some really great children's activities. You can run around and make hats, ties, all kinds of stuff. We have outdoor easels. We have children's performing arts stages...a learning mobile will be there."
"They'll get lost for hours."
Tickets are $15 for general admission, free admission for kids 16 and under.
