MILWAUKEE- They are America's heroes looking for a chance to get back to work and there's a big event Thursday to help them do just that.

The Milwaukee County War Memorial Center opens at 9 a.m. Thursday for the Hiring Our Heros job fair.

The jobs fair connects veterans with employers looking to hire.

TODAY'S TMJ4 has talked to a handful of individuals on how this event is changing lives.

Mark Flower has seen plenty of frustrated and unemployed veterans lately.  He spends a good deal of time at the Dryhootch helping vets find their place in a tough job market.

"Be persistent, be patient, and be nice," said Flower.  "Those are the three words I kinda live by."

Unemployment among veterans returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan runs as high as 30 percent in some parts of the country.

Mark Flower said veterans who show up should be ready to sell themselves to 60 employers looking to hire.

"If you're coming, put on your best face and don't be afraid to talk about yourself..." said Flower.

All kinds of information about the job fair can be found here.

TODAY'S TMJ4's Melissa McCrady and Steve Chamraz will be out at the War Memorial Center starting first thing in the morning Thursday -- hopefully reporting on all the veterans who made a great first impression.
