Get Well At Work

Get Well At Work

Courtny Gerrish

Imagine going to work, losing weight, and gaining self confidence...all at the same time. Sounds like a productive day right? Two local companies are making that possible for their employees.

From jousting, to playing tag, to football...some bosses are paying their employees to "play".

DeAnna Osteen is the Human Resources Manager at Weyco Group Incorporated on West Estabrook Blvd. in Milwaukee.

"When you have employees in better health, their productivity at work increases," Osteen said.

Companies hire GGR Health and Fitness to give free workouts to employees on company grounds. GGR currently works with the Weyco and the Koss Corporation in Milwaukee. BJ Gaddour is the founder of GGR.

"It's simple, convenient, and affordable. It's at their workplace," Gaddour says.

Workers are seeing results! Gail Ruggles is an office manager at Weyco. Despite her Fibromyalgia, she dropped from a size 18 to a size 10...in just 13 weeks!

"All of a sudden my weight was going down, my clothes were falling off me, it was a good thing. It was a lot of fun," Ruggles exclaims.

About 25 percent of Weyco's employees take part in the program. Gail says things are different around the office.

"Everybody's doing the same thing, and we root each other on," Ruggles said.

Sandra Rankins works at Koss, and says she was sick of being overweight.

"A lot of people talked about you, and things like that," Rankins admits.

No one is talking now! Take a look at this: Sandra lost 54 pounds since starting the program earlier this year. This mom of seven admits it hasn't been easy.

"Push-ups, I hate push-ups. I can't do those too well, but I try," Rankins laughs.

Gaddour started the company about a year ago. He says he wanted to take a new approach to personal training.

"Population health management...A program that can be suited to groups, versus one person at a time," Gaddour said.

"You get people of different races, genders, and different experiences. We're all working out, and it's just awesome. It's been the best experience of my life," Gaddour said.

Gaddour mixes intense training, with the fun of sports.

"You gotta try and make things like they were when you were kids, when you were playing," Gaddour explains.

DeAnna Osteen says the program isn't just fun...it's a good business investment.

"Eventually that will affect our health claims, hopefully by reducing them in the future," Osteen said.

Overall, it comes down to changing lives. After all, BJ's business motto is "Get Sexy!"

Sandra says she has a personel plan to "get sexy" in 2008:

"Man....a bikini!!! That's what I want to do, wear a bikini!" Sandra said.

Gaddour hopes to hire more trainers soon, and expand the business to other companies in the Milwaukee area.
