Roundy's Biggest Loser
MILWAUKEE - They're searching for the "biggest loser" at Roundy's.
A competition --- based on the hit NBC show --- is underway at the supermarket chain's corporate headquarters to see who can lose the most weight. Roundy's Human Resources department came up with the idea:
"Well, obviously everybody watches the TV show," said Barb Rand, Roundy's director of employee benefits.
Here's how the competition works: Employees divide themselves into teams. It costs $15 dollars per person to enter and who ever wins gets a cash prize: "Our first place team is getting $950, and our first place individual $285", said Rand.
Teams also give themselves fun names. TODAY'S TMJ4 decided to follow the "Crusin' For A Losin''" team from Roundy's accounting department, who all decided to enter for different reasons:
"I got peer pressured into it to be truthful," said accounting assistant Sandy Verburgt.
"You know the buddy system, I don't think I would be doing it on my own as effectively," said accountant Keith Jansen.
"Yeah, just to be healthier and feel better about myself," said Laura Alsteen, who also works as an accountant.
Combined "Cruisin' For A Losin'" wants to lose about 50 pounds. A reasonable goal for this contest at Roundy's that's already off the charts.
"We thought we were going to get about 50 or 60 people, we got 140. So it exceeded our expectations for sure, "said Rand.
At the end of the contest, however many pounds the teams have lost, Roundy's will donate the equivalent in pounds of food to a food pantry.
