Special AssignmentMACC: Nollenn's WishBy Carole MeekinsMILWAUKEE - The Sports Auction 4 MACC is this Saturday at noon on TODAY'S TMJ4. The MACC Fund raises money for childhood cancer research. The Tabaska family has a lot to celebrate these days. John Tabaska says his 4-year-old son Nollenn is in remission, after fighting a form of Melanoma for almost a year. "It's a huge relief that we know that with Nollenn we are starting a new chapter in this life, in our life as a family," John beams. It was quite a different story last year though, when we first met Colleen during the MACC Fund Auction. Nollenn was still battling the aggressive cancer. But today, the tears have turned to laughter! Nollenn's sister Maddy is so glad he's doing well. "I can see him up and running again and not in the hospital," she says. The Tabaska family had a little help celebrating Nollenn's success this past summer. The 'Make-A-Wish' Foundation threw Nollenn a big party, complete with a new, high-tech swing set! His mom Shannon says she can't keep him away. "He loves playing outside, I think that's kinda what made him decide to get a swing set, because he is outdoors from morning to night," she says. Maddy adds, "Now that we have a new swing set, I think we're pretty much gonna play on it every day." The family also did a balloon release, to symbolize Nollenn's new lease on life. "That was an idea we came up with as a family, Shannon and I thought, as history kind of dictates, it's always been a symbolic thing to release balloons at special events," John explains. |
