Special AssignmentDaddies Seeing DoubleBy Shelley WalcottMILWAUKEE - The chance of having twins is about 1 in 90. Our newsroom has beaten those odds. Lance Allan is our fun-loving sports guy. Vince Vitrano is our cut-up morning anchor. But what you may not know about Lance and Vince is that they are both the fathers of twins. "It's kind of like organized chaos where you can see kids running in and out," Lance explains. Vince adds, "I'm tired all the time, but who isn't I guess, you know." Lance and Vinny were part of a baby boom in our newsroom--Two of four on-air personalities with twins. Lance has identical boys: 4-year-old Ethan and Brendan. They were born in 2005. Brendan likes to boast about his birth. "I was out of momma's tummy first." Ethan replies, "And then I go." Lance and wife Amy admit those early days were pretty sleep deprived. Today life is a lot more fun--from ordinary moments like choosing dad's tie, to stranger moments of identical twin synergy. "Sometimes it's literally like they know what the other one wants. It's like Ethan will be like, 'Here you go Brendan, here's a glass of water', and Brendan will be like, 'Thank you,'" Lance explains. Amy adds, "It's fun to see how they interact with each other, and talk to each other and just how they're such buddies. Yeah, it's amazing." It's also a blast for big sister Rebekah. Rebekah: "Some of my friends have no brothers or sisters they're just by them self." Shelley: "I bet that makes you happy that you have your brothers." Rebekah: "Mmm hmm." Shelley: "Do you love them?" Rebekah: "Yah." Twins also keep Vince Vitrano's family busy. Vinny has fraternal twins: 2-year-old Max and Olivia. Vinny admits, he and his wife found those early days exhausting, especially working mornings, where he has to be up at 3 a.m. "You would have moments of, 'You know what, this is going to be OK. This is all going to be OK.' But most of the moments weren't that. It was like, 'We're not going to make it. We're not going to make it. Someone has to fix this,'" Vinny recalls. As the twins get older, Vinny says they really are their own people. "I feel like we miss out on a lot of the weird twin stuff. I don't see any secret languages, I don't see any weird eye to eye contact where you're like, 'Oh they're talking to each other and we don't know what's going on.' I think they just both happened to come out at the same time," Vince explains. And they both have to answer to big sister Ella. Vinny says, "She runs the house. I have to remind her very often, because she likes to manipulate these two, I just say to her, I'm just like, 'These children were not brought here for your amusement.'" From precocious, to precious, twins are the talk of our newsroom, and the joy of Lance and Vince's lives. "You find yourself just staring at them. I finally get what my mom was looking at all those years," Vinny admits.
