4 On Your Side: Swapstyle
DOUSMAN - Karen Luebke doesn't have a lot of time to herself. With three kids, three and under, plus four older ones she also can't afford to buy things at cost. So Karen found a way to swap for the latest fashions. "I love premium denim, I'm not going to lie," Karen told us.
She found a website where what she wants only costs her postage and something from her own closet. Swapstyle.com lets you swap fashionable clothing and cosmetics with people around the world, for free. "A lot of my wardrobe is from Australia or Europe."
So here's how it works. You post pictures of items you no longer want in the hopes of trading it for stuff you like.
If Karen is not online shopping for bargains she stops by the Saint Vincent De Paul thrift store in Oconomowoc. You have to dig but you can find high end clothes for low end prices. Most of the kid's wardrobes come from there. Abercrombie & Fitch, Gymboree, Limited Too.
But going to any store is touch with the little ones in tow. So Karen usually sticks to the internet and her motto of "why pay full price?"
What are the downfalls of Swapstyle.com? The item is "not as described" or getting "swaplifted." That's when you send your item but get nothing in return. The site does have a swappers rating system to keep users honest.
