Speedbusters: Germantown

By Jay Olstad

GERMANTOWN - If you ask Jason Farvour about his neighborhood drivers, be sure you’ve got enough time to spare.

"Something needs to be done about it because it's out of control," said Farvour. "The speeds are ridiculous." You may be a little upset too if your family lived on a 30-mile-an-hour street where drivers consistently ignored that limit. "We have had some drag racing on this road. And it's residential. We have two schools here," he said.

They live on Fond du Lac Avenue near Pilgrim Road. The area is packed with kids leaving school, trying to navigate around the cars like the video game Frogger. What's even worse...there are no school crossing guards for the kids.

“It's just not safe for them," he said.

We even had Jason's wife Jodi check out the speeds for herself. “It's pretty easy, just point and click," instructed TODAY’S TMJ4 HD reporter Jay Olstad.

And Jodi wasn't surprised by what she or we saw on the radar gun. "Oh, this guy's going 46; this Cadillac," said Olstad as he clocked the driver with the radar gun. Take a closer look at the gun and you’ll see actually that driver was going 48 before Olstad noticed her.

And neighbors are afraid these speeds will cause accidents. In fact, they claim there was one just a few weeks ago. "We saw the aftermath and it was pretty apparent they weren't doing 30-miles-an-hour. The car was completely totaled," said Farvour.

So his family’s request is simple. Slow down, if not for your safety, for theirs.
