Special Assignment4 On Your Side: Lights, Camera, UploadBy Jay Olstad
Most of us have watched at least one video online, but not everyone uploads video because it seems so complicated.
Now, there are new cameras that are super simple, and come with a price-tag that pales in comparison to traditional products!
Bryan Grossbauer loves to be on stage, and wants the world to see his work. So, he puts it on the Internet.
He tells us, "I'm an active YouTube uploader, everything from comedy to music."
He shoots his video, downloads it onto his computer, edits it, then uploads it. He admits it can sometimes be a hassle.
"There's too many steps," he complains.
So cool new mini-cams may be ideal for his purposes. They automate everything for you. Lance Ulanoff works for PC Magazine.
"You can capture video and with most of them can upload the video pretty much through the PC and directly to YouTube," Ulanoff says.
There's also no need for a big camera bag. The size compares to a deck of cards.
"They slip into pretty much the thinnest pocket. They have very few features, few controls, so they're really video capture for dummies," Ulanoff explains.
And there's not a lot of cables to concern yourself with.
"Most of them have the USB cable built in so you just pop it out and plug it into the PC…most capture usually standard video, though there are some high def ones," Ulanoff says.
They don't have any fancy options, but if you're not tech savvy, that may be a benefit.
Sold on the concept, but not sure what to look for in the store? Check out the same things you would in a traditional camera.
"You want to look for video quality, audio quality, ease of use, ergonomics, storage space," Ulanoff says.
In many cases, the storage is right in the camera, with no tape, disc or memory card to eject. Bryan likes his old camera, but thinks he could definitely be converted.
"The idea of having the same quality and easier to upload, it's a no brainer," Bryan concludes.
The price range is $99 to $180, still less than most average video cameras.
