Special AssignmentChateau du LacBy Courtny Gerrish
DOOR COUNTY: It's the lap of luxury. The best of the best. We are talking about the biggest and the most expensive home for sale in Wisconsin history, and we were treated to an exclusive tour.
As you walk through the front door wood, stone and a beautiful chandelier grab your attention. Everything is a work of art in this Chateau du Lac.
"You're going to get fantastic sunsets. You can see that the doors open to the outdoor terrace," Realtor MaryKay Shumway said.
Our first room is the Grand Hall which has two story windows and a view of the bay.
This Sister Bay mansion has more than 35,000 square feet. It stretches longer than a football field. The house and everything in it, is for sale. So far, there have been prospective buyers from Illinois, California, and Germany.
Included in the $29 million asking price are paintings from the 17th and 18th century, original artwork and collectibles from all over the world. This place is so vast, every room has a name.
The kitchen has commercial-grade appliances and serves the formal dining room. An amazing room with beautiful crown molding, Tiffany place settings and other treasures.
The mansion also has a library, game room, garden room and an indoor pool and hot tub. You'll probably never go out to the movies ever again. This place has a 14 seat cinema, complete with a popcorn maker and 1,400 movie titles.
Upstairs there are three guest bedrooms, each with their own bath. The guest wing also has a gallery style kitchen.
On the other side of the home is the master suite with his and her bathrooms and walk in closets. The woman's walk-in is 1,000 square feet and has more than enough space for shoes! Total square footage for the master suite is bigger than most homes. It takes up 5,700 square feet!
The home sits on 100 acres; it also includes a beach house, guest house and a studio. The Chateau has been marketed internationally as part of Christie's Great Estates, a listing agent for luxury properties.
