Beauty's Best

Spring is here, and stores are stocked with the latest hair, skin and cosmetic creations! If the thought of searching through a sea of new products is enough to give you a makeup meltdown…relax! We've got you 'covered'. Sick of shattered eye shadow, clumpy mascara and 3-year-old lip gloss? It's time for some serious spring beauty cleaning! But how do you pick from the barrage of cool color combos and hot hair products hitting the market? Self magazine asked readers to test over 1,000 new products in all prices ranges, and rate the best of the best. Leah Wyar works for the magazine, and says all products were included. "Everything that you can find in the department store, the drug store, as well as niche brands that you can just buy, you know, on web sites." If you want a fresh, clean face before stepping out, Skin Effects Calming Gel Cleanser left testers soothed and smoothed. Lancome's Anti-Aging Moisturizer came out on top. Wyar also has a suggestion for zapping zits. "The Sephora Face Concealing Blemish Pen won because it contains salicylic acid to dry up the acne, but it's also going to offer some concealing," Wyar explains. The winning All-Around Foundation by Shiseido left readers with beautiful, balanced skin. Testers like Elizabeth Brownfield voted Cosmedicine's tinted moisturizer 'simply stunning'. "Because it had a lighter weight formula. It didn't feel tacky or heavy like some of the others did," Brownfield says. To give your skin a hint of tint, Lancaster's self-tanner glowed. To add some color to your kisser…the winning lipsticks: Almay's Hydracolor and Armani-Silk, which actually contains silk fibers. For a silky smooth feeling body, Dove Pro-Age was the bar soap champ. And readers like Lauren Spencer loved Ahava's Pure Spa Energizing Body Mud Mask. "I definitely felt like my skin was…almost like I didn't need to use moisturizer. It was that soft." For 'eye-mazing' results …Victoria's Secret Very Sexy mosaic eyeshadow and Bobbi Brown's cream shadow swept the competition. For hair help, readers felt like they just stepped out of a salon after using Aura Spa balancing Verbena Ginger Shampoo…along with the winning conditioner. "The Charles Worthington Dream hair conditioner was great because it contained these pearl pigments, so it left the hair with a really beautiful luster," Wyar says. Wyar says these are great recommendations from women all over the country. So keep the list handy, try things out, and have fun! The magazine also lists winners for things like sunscreen, body scrubs, and anti-aging serums. Just click on the "Self Magazine Awards" link below.
